Course contents:
1.Introduction (allowance 0/2)

 a. Introduction. Basic principles of material balances. Batch system, continuous flow system. Balancing time. Components, parameters of flow, concentration, balancing variables. b. Solution of simple problems.

2.Simple material balances (allowance 0/2)

 a. Mass flow, component mass flow. Conversion of mass flow to volume flow parameters and vice versa. b. Solution of simple problems.

3.Simple material balances (allowance 0/2)

 a. Molar flow, component molar flow. Conversion of mass variables to molar ones and vice versa. b. Solution of simple problems.

4.Material balances of simple systems (allowance 0/2)

 a. Mathematical formulation of problems to be solved. Number of equation, independent equations, solution of a system of linear algebraic equations. b. Solution of simple problems.

5.Material balances of complex systems (allowance 0/4)

 a. Complex systems, flowsheet, recycle, accumulation, component separation. b. Co-current flow, counter-current flow. Problems solution.

6.Material balances of systems with chemical reaction (allowance 0/4)

 a. Generation and consumption of compounds in reactions, stoichiometry, reaction extent, key component, flowsheet of a system with chemical reaction. b. Conversion, balance equations, solution of balance equations. c. First written exam. Solution of material balances of a system without chemical reaction.

7.Material balances of systems with chemical reaction (allowance 0/4)

 a. Theoretical extent of reaction, key (limiting) component, component in excess. b. Solution of material balances of a complex system with one chemical reaction.

8.Material balances of systems with two or more reactions (allowance 0/4)

 a. Material balances in systems with multiple reactions. Complex systems with complex reaction scheme. b. Material balances of complex systems. c. Second written exam. Solution of material balances of a system with chemical reaction.

9.Final evaluation of students results (allowance 0/2)
