|Learning outcomes of the course unit:|
|After completing the course, students will be able to solve the different basic types of mechanical stress components and structures, to calculate of internal force quantities caused by external load, to perform strength check and strength design of simple structures loaded by basic types of stress and their combinations.|
|Prerequisites and co-requisites:||none|
|Fundamental terms and methods.
Statically determinate and indeterminate systems under tension/compression.
Planar and spatial stress state. Ultimate states and hypotheses.
Elementary bending theory. Deformation of the beam.Statically indeterminate beams.
Shear and torsion. Non-circular cross-section rod torsion, free and constrained torsion.
Combined stress states. Introduction to fracture and fatigue mechanics
Numerical and experimental methods, fundamentals of finite element method.

|Planned learning activities and teaching methods:||Lectures are focused on fundamental methods of technical application of the theory of elasticityand on the 3D stresses analysis and deformations. Fundamental practical problems are solved numerically on computational exercises.|
