Learning outcomes of the course unit:
To acquaint students with prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms (cytology, morphology, growth, reproduction). To provide knowledge of microorganisms which are significant from the aspect of practical use in biotechnology and food. To notify with the possibilities of liquidation of unwanted microflora.
 
Prerequisites and co-requisites: none
 
Course contents:
The role of microorganisms in nature and industrial applications. Prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms - cytology, morphology, taxonomy, reproduction. Industrially, ecologically and medically important prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, acellular pathogens. Nutrition, growth and reproduction of microorganisms. Chemical and physical environmental factors influencing growth and metabolism of microorganisms.
