Learning outcomes of the course unit:
In last decades, respectively in last years, computers have become part of many engineering activities. This also applies to engineering technologies. Computer aided systems, whether in design, manufacturing or many other engineering activities, tend to improve these activities. Within the subject "Fundamentals of Computer Aided Production Technologies - Selected Chapters" the student will be acquainted with the nature of main engineering activities related to production technologies, their computer support, advantages and disadvantages and areas of use of these computer aided technologies. The student will be approached with the above mentioned issues with an emphasis on the system view, i.e. the system "machine tool - tool – workpiece - fixture" will be examined as a system where the elements of the system are closely related. The student also will gain knowledge about the extension of the above-mentioned system by "computer", i.e. "machine tool - tool – workpiece – fixture - computer", its justification and importance.

Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Classification of shapes;
Classification of CAD systems;
Geometric fundaments of CAD systems;
Geometric modelling;
Feature modelling;
Surface modelling;
Reverse Engineering (RE) (principle of RE, methods of 3D digitization, point cloud - polygon mesh – CAD surface model).

Computer Aided Engineering (CAE)
Finite Element Method (FEM) in engineering (in production technologies);
Application of FEM in practice;
Case study.

Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
Methods of producing shapes;
Manufacturing by removing, moving or adding small, medium and large parts of material;

Numerical Control (NC), Computerized Numerical Control (CNC);
Tools for machining, tools for machining free form surfaces;
Basic types of machine tools;
Blocks of CNC machine tools;
Serial and parallel kinematic structures, robots;
Universal CNC machine and its possible structures;
Classification of 5-axis kinematic structures of milling machines;
Machining strategies;
Methods of additive manufacturing (used materials, function principle, application areas, advantages and disadvantages).

Computer Aided Inspection (CAIn)
Integration between CAD and CAIn;
Inspection / CAIn planning;
Contact and non-contact methods of inspection;
Coordinate Measuring Machines (structure classification, probing systems, applications);
Active triangulation (structured light) for inspection;
Computed Tomography (CT) for inspection.

Computer Aided Assembly (CAA)
Assembly modeling;
CAA planning;
Assembly sequence representation.

Integration of CAx systems, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Product Data Management (PDM) / Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
Data exchange;
Concurrent Engineering;
Product model and information management.
