Assesment methods:
Students write 2 tests during the semester. The sum of points for the test is 20. Students successfully pass the tests if they have at least 56 % of all points. Students also have to pass the oral exam. Students get credits for the course if they successfully pass both, the written tests and the oral exam. Students are graded as follows: A 92-100 %, B 83-91 %, C 74-82 %, D 65-73 %, E 56-64 %.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Bioanalytical methods as a tool for the study of chemical composition of living objects (mostly microorganisms), but also the use of microbiological and biochemical methods for the determination of chemical substances in the environment.
 
Course contents:
Homogenization of samples, preparation for analysis, Precipitation and desolvatation of macromolecules, Dialysis, lyophilization , Separation of components in centrifugal field, Basic physical principles, sedimentation and centrifugation, Gradient centrifugation, Flow centrifugation and centrifugation in zonal rotors, Electromigration methods, Basic physical principles, Paper electrophoresis, various types of gel electrophoresis, PAGE, Isotachophoresis, Isoelectric focusation, Radionuclide methods, Basic physical principles, the definition of radioactivity, Methods for the preparation of radiolabelled substances, Methods for detection of radiation, RIA methods and their application in analytical chemistry, Immunochemical analytical methods, The basic principles of the method, Preparation of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, EIA, ELISA and other immunoassay techniques, Affinity chromatography, Histochemical and cytochemical methods, The basic principles of the methods, Isolation and fixation of biological material, Ultrathin sections preparation, Histochemical methods for the analysis of proteins, saccharides, lipids and nucleic acids.
