Continuous compounding is realized by solving the structure of molecules on the base of the given spectra related to the content of the seminars. Successful working-out of such tests is the condition for the attendance on the exam.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
To inform students about the basic relations of vibrational spectroscopy and to provide the theoretical bases of infrared and Raman spectroscopy. To teach the students to interpret vibrational (infrared and Raman) spectra.
Course contents: | |||||||||||||
Treatment of molecular vibrations by classical mechanics. Symmetry of molecular vibrations. Types of vibrational coordinates, GF analysis.
Vibrational, rotational-vibrational spectra of diatomic molecules. Vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules. Classical description of the Raman effect. Selection rules for Raman transitions. Treatment of molecular vibrations by quantum mechanics. Normal modes.
