Be familiarized with the mechanisms and manifestations of material degradation.
Course contents:
Division of materials; Physical chemistry of material degradation - physical ageing, chemical degradation; Degradation of stone, plaster, mortar and inorganic binders; Degradation of biform systems - fibers, textile, coatings, varnishes; Degradation of other biomaterials - leather, parchment, ivory, shellac, waxes, gellatine, glue; Degradation of synthetic polymers; Methods of the estimation of material lidetime; Metal corrosion.
