Prerequisites for registration:
In the course of the semester students will write 2 control tests (each for 20 points). To pass the exam, students are required to obtain the following scores: A - minimum 85 points. B - minimum 75 points, C- minimum 65 points. D- minimum 60 points. E- minimum 56 points.
|Learning outcomes of the course unit:|
The aim of this subject is to obtain a basic knowledge about the structure of proteins and DNA as well as about their thermodynamic and kinetic properties and mutual interactions. Students will understand the structural aspects of biological membranes and principles of membrane transport and diffusion. They will become familair with the role of free radicals and antioxidants in biosystems. Student will understand the principles of experimental techniques in biophysical chemistry research.
|Structure of proteins and DNA - experimental methods of study. Thermodynamics of enzyme catalyzed reactions - solvent effects. Adsorption phenomena in proteomics. Biological membranes and membrane transport. Diffusion - mathematical description. Free radicals and antioxidants in biosystems. Applications of magnetic resonance in biophysical research.
