Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The main aim is to gain the basic knowledge about the structure, properties, synthetic preparation and typical reactivity of amines, carbonyl compounds and their derivatives, amino acids and peptides, saccharides, nucleosides a nucleic acids.

Course contents:
1. Amines - Properties and synthesis.
2. Amines - Reactivity.
3. Aldehydes and Ketones - Properties and synthesis.
4. Aldehydes and Ketones - Reactivity I.
5. Aldehydes and Ketones- Reactivity II.
6. Carboxylic Acids - Properties, synthesis and reactivity.
7. Carboxylic Acids Derivatives - Properties, synthesis and reactivity.
8. Amino Acids and Peptides
9. Saccharides
10. Nucleosides

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists of 10 lectures (2 hrs per week) with the following structure: introduction, structure, properties and nomenclature, synthetic methods of preparation, reactivity and organic transformations, applications and practical utility.
The course also consists of group tutorials (1 h per week).
Assesment methods and criteria: Written exam test with maximum score 50 points. The exam is passed when student reaches at least 56% of points, i.e. 28/50. The final grade follows the percentage of points obtained: A 92-100%, B 83-91%, C 74-82%, D 65-73%, E 56-64%.
Language of instruction: Slovak, English
Work placement(s): There is no compulsory work placement in the course unit.
