Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The students will get complex overview about engineering geological investigation for ground, transportation, water and underground constructions. Special attention will be paid to engineering geological investigation in areas with occurrence of geodynamic phenomenon. They will get knowledge about hydrogeology with respect to investigation of underground water regime and its influence on construction foundations. The students will learn fundamental information about hard rocks, their classifications and evaluation for foundation and construction purposes.
Course contents:
AGeneral tasks of investigation for construction foundation
Evaluation of basic components of engineering geological and hydrogeological conditions of a construction site
Characterization of geodynamic processes and their influence on foundation conditions
Rock classification, laboratory and field rock tests
Structural analyses of rock massives and methods of evaluation of their stability
Methods and principles of engineering geological and hydrogeological investigation
Slope stability investigation and methods of stability improvement
Investigation for transportation and underground constructions
Investigation for water works
Investigation of construction sites with complicated geotechnical conditions
