Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The lectures will focus on the risk analysis of extreme hydrological events, on quantifiing the potential, sensitivity and vulnerability of basins in relation to extreme runoff situations. Doctoral students become familiar with new methods for estimation of design discharges and precipitation as well as applications of mathematical modeling and geostatistical methods for estimating extreme runoff processes in the basin. The students will gain experience in the field of assessment and risk management of extreme runoff situations and flood risk mapping.
 
Course contents:
- The potential, sensitivity and vulnerability of basins in relation to extreme hydrological situations
- Methods for estimating of design discharges and precipitations, regional and at site estimation techniques
- The application of geostatistical methods and mathematical modeling by estimating of design discharges and precipitations
- Risk management of extreme runoff situations
- Technical measures for risk reduction on the catchments
