Learning outcomes of the course unit:
With successful completion of the course the student will get basic theoretical and practical knowledge of the principles of basic electronic components and circuits operation. He or She knows the connection between electrical properties of individual basic electronic components and their applications in electronic circuits respectively systems for generating, processing and transmission of signals. He or She will acquire basic methodology for measuring electrical parameters and characteristics of semiconductor devices and electrical properties of simple circuits. The student is able to measure the characteristics and parameters of basic electronic elements as well as to design and realize them with simple electronic circuits.

Course contents:
Passive and active elements of electronic circuits. Diodes - classification, principles of operation, static and dynamic characteristics, models of semiconductor diodes. Application circuits with diodes, rectifier analysis and design, stabilizer and switch. Bipolar and unipolar transistor - classification, structure, function and principles of operation, analysis, peripheral and computer models. Transistors application in analog electronics. Transistor in the circuit, principled proposal of a AF amplifier. Transistor in the switching mode. Digital logic circuits. CMOS, HBT, BiCMOS, HEMT, power MOSFETs, IGBTs - principle of operation, static and dynamic properties of a basic circuit diagram, power amplifiers. Optoelectronic components. Multilayer switching power components and their applications in circuit. Operational amplifiers. Basic characteristics, equivalent circuit, basic applications in analog and digital electronics. Feedback and stability of electronic circuits. Operation principles of selected electronic circuits and systems.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: lectures, laboratory instructions, seminars

Weekly: 2 hours lectures/2 hours laboratory instructions
 
Assesment methods and criteria: During the semester period written are two tests – 1th for 10 points in the 3-4. week of the semester and the second for 20 points in the 7-8. week of the semester. For active participation in the laboratory instructions and seminars 10 points can be achieved. It is needed to attend all instructions and complete all particular laboratory projects.
For the final examination test, the student can get max. 60 points. Credits shall not be granted to a student who at the final examination test earns less than 25 points.

Grading: A-min. 92 points, B-min.83 points, C-min. 74 points, D-min. 65 points, E-min. 56 points, FX-less than 56 points.
