Assesment methods:
Activity during laboratory exercises and conducting reports + written test during the semester - 30 points. Final written exam - 70 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students successfully completing the course will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of electromagnetic waves propagation, antennas and advanced digital wireless communication systems, mobile communication networks and navigation systems. A graduate practically learns to use modern high-frequency measuring equipments, like spectrum analyzers, RF generators and analyzers of digital modulations.
Course contents:
Spectrum of radio waves and its management, dissemination of electromagnetic waves near the Earth's surface, in the ionosphere and troposphere, electrical parameters and directional properties of antennas, linear and planar antennas and antenna systems, diversity reception, amount of transmitted information, entropy, source coding, data redundancy, channel coding, self-correcting codes, interleaving, digital modulation, local wireless communication networks - WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, mobile communications networks - GSM, UMTS, LTE, software-defined radio - SDR, global satellite navigation systems - GPS, Galileo.
