Basic terms and physical quantities related to the electromagnetic field, Maxwell's equations in integral and differential form. Material relationships, magnetic permeability and susceptibility, complex permeability. Atomic magnetism. The classification of substances according to magnetic properties. Substances without a magnetic structure and with disordered structure, diamagnetism, paramagnetism. Substances with an organized structure, ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism, ferrimagnetism. Magnetic anisotropy and its classification. Magnetostriction (Joule effect) and its categorisation. Magnetoelastic (Vilari's) phenomenon and its relationship with magnetostriction, magnetoelastic energy. Domain structure of ferromagnets. Methods of magnetic domains observation. Magnetisation processes, domain walls motion, magnetic polarisation vector rotations, paraproces, saturation magnetic polarisation. The mechanism of magnetisation (formation of magnetic reversal nuclei), reasons for magnetic hysteresis. Basics of measurement of magnetic properties of massive samples. Methods of sample demagnetization.
