Assesment methods:
Two tests during semester and a final examination.
In each test the student can get up to 20 points. The final examination gives a maximum of 60 points.
The final marks are awarded according to the following key:
A 91 - 100 points
B 81 - 90 points
C 71 - 80 points
D 61 - 70 points
E 51 - 60 points
FX 0 - 50 points
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The purpose of this subject is to provide an introduction into corrosion science and technology of metallic materials.
Course contents:
1. Thermodynamics of corrosion reactions
2. Kinetics of corrosion
3. Electrochemical corrosion, galvanic cells, electrode polarization
4. High temperature oxidation
5. Passivation of metals
6. Localized corrosion - pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion
7. Corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking
8. Corrosion prevention
9. Corrosion inhibitors
10. Surface protection of metals
11. Corrosion testing
12. Practical examples of metals corrosion science and technology
