Assesment methods:
The student is classified in three sequential steps:
1. Proof of knowledge on seminars, totally maximum 40 points.
2. Exam – wtitten test, maximum 30 points.
3. Exam – interview, maximum 30 points.
The final result expressed by mark is given with the sum of points obtained in particular steps: 92 - 100 (A), 83 – 91 (B), 74 – 82 (C), 65 – 73 (D), 56 – 64 (E), less than 56 (FX).
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After passing through this subject, the student is familiar with various groups of materials, inclusive of their properties and structure, and is able to choose the most convenient of them for the particular application. He/she is competent to recommend procedures of the material treatment or other modification to be in proper for the selected application. He/she became familiar with handling of material-related problems in various industrial areas (metallurgy, mechanical engineering, energy industries, electronics, chemical industry etc.). He/she mastered fundamentals of the materials design, an important tool used mostly in the development of advanced materials for high-tech applications.
Course contents:
Selection of proper materials for the use in various industrial areas with the accent on advanced technology. Based on student´s theoretical knowledge and practical experience gained during his/her master study searching for links between physical nature of phenomena characterising the material, procedures of treatment or other modification, achieved properties and characterisation methods, as well as risks related to the material exploatation in service.
