100% active participation in seminars, elaboration of seminary work in the agreed scope and to the specified topic.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student acquires knowledge about real situation in the environment, the causes and sources of anthropogenic and natural pollution, causing the global environmental problems. Student is acquaint with technical, social, economical and naturalistic possibilities to eliminate environmental pollution. He gain knowledge and tools for identifying and solving the problems of environs at machinery, foundry, energetics and other industries.
 
Course contents:
• Introduction to the environment - The basic concepts. Ecology and environmentalistics. Biotic and abiotic factors of the environment, sustainable development. Organizations, monitoring systems and sources of information about the status of the environment in the Slovak Republic.
• Main problems of environment I. - Global environmental problems - air pollution, climate change, ozone depletion, acidification, smog, pollution of water, soil erosion and pollution, the threat of biological diversity.
• Main problems of environment II. - Global environmental problems - the growth of the human population, the production of waste. Waste management. Regional and local environmental problems in Slovak republic.
• The impact of the environment on human health - Environmental health, physical and chemical pollution, important natural disasters and industrial accidents, environmental management in industry.
• The impact of mining and processing of selected materials on the environment - The impact of mining and treatment of raw materials on the environment. Production and processing of metallic and non-metallic materials. Recycling of selected wastes.
• The impact of energetics and transportation on the environment - Fossil fuels, nuclear and fusion energy. Renewable sources of energy, concept of sustainable energetics. Transportation and its impact on the environment.
