Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student should be able to: identify historical localisation of a fact; specify the fact genesis and its relations; generalise the relations in a particular historical period and judge the change in the man's way of thinking and behaviour within particular period; assess the expansion of technology and related rationalisation of the human decision-making, and the role of school/school systems in the abovementioned process; to express one's own opinion to the conflicts of the human creativity in the history and modify the prerequisites of participation in the gradual harmonisation of the man science -- technology relations.
 
Course contents:
Syllabus: Aim, outcomes and sources of the subject. Periods of the history of technology. Rise of the first technologies. Science and technology in Middle Ages, agricultural revolution in feudalism. Science, universities, craft, manufactures. Industrial revolution, design of the first steam engine and its applications. Nobel Prize. Patents, inventions. Personalities in the field of science and technology. Nuclear power. Considerations and prognosis of further science and technology development regarding the needs of human society. History of Technical Education in Slovakia.
