Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student will be familiar with theoretical and algorithmic aspects of the finite element method for solving boundary value problems for ordinary and partial differential equations.
Course contents:
- Integral formulation of boundary value problems for ordinary and partial differential equations, Ritz-Raleigh and Galerkin method.
- Solution to boundary value problems by the finite element method in one or more dimensions using systems Mathematica and ANSYS.
- Approximating functions, numerical integration, adaptive grids and computer implementation of the finite element method.
- Solving non-stationary problems by the finite element method.
