Assesment methods:
The condition for obtaining the credit is the presence in seminars. The exam is in the form of written test; in order to pass the exam, student has to acquire at least 56 % points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The students should get acknowledged with the principles of mutual transformations of various forms of energy. These transformations obey exact laws of nature, which are formulated in the second law of thermodynamics; the efficiency of the transformations having its limits.
Course contents:
Fuels, the principles of their effective combustion, material and heat balance of combustion, furnaces, burners. Heat transfer in furnaces. Compression and expansion of gases, polytropic process, indicative diagramm, volumetric and indicative compressor efficiency, the function of intercoolers, compressor types. Thermodynamics of water steam, Clausius-Rankine cycle, mechanic energy production - backpressure and condensing; possibilities of cycle thermic efficiency improvement. Steam production in steam boilers, boiler- a boiler room efficiency, steam pipelines and condensate traps. Types of energy transformations. Combustion engines and working cycles. Cooling towers and microtowers, compression and absorption cooling; types of double stage cooling. Heat pumps.
