Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students will obtain knowledge about the mechanics of particulate materials and their mechanical and physical properties, the main processes in the mechanical operations of particle materials such as homogenization, agglomeration, disintegration, sorting, storage and transport
 
Course contents:
Basic concepts of particulate materials, the geometric and physical properties and particle size distribution characteristics.
Mechanism for force interaction between the particles, the principle of effective stress, boundary lines and limit equilibrium in the plane, the mobility factor.
Theory of shallow and deep bins, storage of particulate materials, discharge nozzle sizing.
Mixing of particulate materials - kinetics and energetics of mixing. Types of mixers for particulate materials.
Sorting of particulate materials - theoretical backgroud of sorting. Types of screens equipment.
Disintegration of particulate materials - hypotheses of disintegration, disintegration kinetics. Types of the separating machine.
Agglomeration of particulate materials - Compaction, briquetting and granulation. Types of the principles of granulation machines.
