Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The subject is the introduction to computer networks, familiarizing students with the basic concepts in this field and its application in solving problems of data transmission in computer networks with emphasis on the concept of network model ISO/OSI and TCP/IP. Emphasis is placed on analysis of physical layer network model and the introduction to devices providing routing information in computer networks. Students learn about the basic types of networks that exist today in practice. They learn also with emerging network technologies.
Course contents:
- Introduction of the subject. Repeat the basic terms of an introduction to computer networking issues: Physical principles of data transmission, network features, identification of network components, transmission media and methods of sharing classification of network, network topology, Passive components of network infrastructure, transmission media
- Network Protocols and Standards: Architecture of communication functions (principles and standardization): The reference model ISO / OSI, TCP / IP layers of analysis models, IEEE / 802: 802.3, Communication protocols: architecture of TCP, UDP, concept ARP, RARP, characteristic functions of TCP / IP
- Passive network infrastructure equipment: Technical means for ensuring the system functions - transmission media, active and passive components
- Structured Cabling Systems: Standards for the implementation of cabling systems, basic principles and benefits of structured cabling, cabling, installation work, diagnostics, fault
- Active Components for network security features (active network elements and means for interconnecting networks): Repeaters, bridges, routers, gateways, principles of their use in building a LAN, WAN (segmentation)
