Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students will gain knowledge about the possibilities of automation of analytical determinations.
Course contents:
Fundamentals of laboratory automation. Sensors, principles of sensing of analytical quantities. Processing of signals provided by sensors. Amplifiers and convertors. Automation of analytical operations - sampling and sample treatment. Automatic analyzers. Characterization, clasification, construction. Common parts of analyser systems. Continuous laboratory flow analyzers. Analysis in segmented flow. Sample processing, signal measurement. Flow injection analysis - FIA. Laboratory analyzers with nonsegmented flow. Principle, concentration profile. Different variants of FIA analysers arrangement and possibilies of applications. Laboratory batch analyzers. Systems with automated sample processing and signal measurement. Automatic titrators with scanned reagent concentration and end point autodetection. Automation in clinical chemistry. Automation in environmental monitoring. Process analyzers. New trends in automatic analysers. Miniaturization of arrangements. Lab-on-chip systems.
