Learning outcomes of the course unit:
This course will cover the catalytic mechanisms of enzyme reactions, with an emphasis on: cofactors in enzymology, mechanisms of group transfer reactions and oxido-reduction reactions. Students who are interested in the mechanisms of enzymes, enzymes used in drug synthesis, enzyme structure and function of enzymes, immobilization techniques and enzyme engineering will find this course valuable. Additionally, the students obtaine many knowledge about various applications of enzymes in the fields of food industry, pharmaceutical industry and other applications.
 
Course contents:
Deepening knowledge in the areas of:
enzyme safety and regulatory considerations
characterization of enzymes in classes
new enzymes in biotransformation
enzymes used in drug synthesis
enzymes used in biosensors
application of enzymes in medicine (therapeutic enzymes, enzymes as analytical reagents)
techniques of immobilization
