Learning outcomes of the course unit:
To inform students on experimental and theoretrical aspects of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter. To teach students how to usw the results of spectroscopic measurements to obtain information on electronic structure and implied phzsical and chemical properties of compounds.
Course contents:
Electromagnetism, Maxwell equations, basis properties of electromagnetic waves, electrona s a particle and as a wave. Electron structure, interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter.
Molecular movements, vibrational, Raman and rotational spectra.
Optical activity, circular dichroism.
Photophysical and photochemical processes, spin-orbit interaction.
Electric and magnetic properties of compounds.
