Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student is familiar with biochemical aspects of genesis and progress of various diseases. Student understands the relationship between the cause of disease and its clinical manifestations. He is familiar with methods and techniques of determination of biochemical parameters used in diagnostics of diseases.
Course contents:
Defects of carbohydrates metabolism. Metabolism of aminoacids and its defects. Biosynthesis and degradation of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides and their defects. Defects of fatty acids metabolism. Biosynthesis of heme and porphyrias. Defects of cardiovascular system. Role of liver and defects of liver functions. Metabolism of sphingolipids and lysosomal storage diseases. Defects of CNS. Inflammatory process – proteins of acute phase. Causes of tumour diseases. Defects of food intake – reasons and consequences of malnutrition and obesity.
