Learning outcomes of the course unit:
To familiarize PhD students of chemistry with basic optimization methods (in particular gradient and stochastic methods).

Course contents:
1. Basic definitions and theorems of extremes of functions of 1-variable and n-variable.
2. Optimization methods for 1-variable functions
3. Optimization methods for n-variable functions (gradient method and Newton and Raphson method)
4. Simplex method and its modifications
5. Genetic algorithm.
6. Neural networks
