Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The purpose of this course is to bridge that gap, between the organic the student should recall and the mainstream material the student will encounter in the current literature.
Educational Goals:
-develop a knowledge base of synthetic organic chemistry reactions
-develop an understanding of structure-reactivity principles in a variety of chemical structures
-develop the ability to devise synthetic strategies to complex molecule construction
-develop fundamental critical thinking skills, including pattern recognition and analogous reasoning
 
Course contents:
This course deals with the application of structure and theory to the study of organic reaction mechanisms: stereochemical features including conformation and stereoelectronic effects (Dynamic and static stereochemistry); reaction dynamics; catalysis using transition metal complexes (homogenous, heterogeneous).
