Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will acquire basic knowledge of the legal system of the Slovak Republic, understand the basic legal terms, learn to find and orientate in the legislation, understand the principles and functioning of the so-called "public law"(constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law), gain basic knowledge of the so-called "private law", understand its principles and functioning, learn about the most important provisions of civil law, commercial law and labour law necessary for his personal and working life.
 
Course contents:
1. Fundamentals of constitutional law - Constitution and its meaning, basic human rights and freedoms, system of public authorities, their competencies
2. Fundamentals of administrative law - public administration, the system of public administration authorities, administrative delicts, administrative procedure and its principles
3. Fundamentals of criminal Law - criminal accountability, crime, penalties, criminal procedure and its principles
4. Private law - principles of its functioning, differences from the so-called "public law"
5. Fundamentals of civil law - legal acts, preclusion and limitation, property right, family law, inheritance, contractual types, civil lawsuit and its principles, execution proceedings
6. Basics of commercial law and intellectual property rights - business and forms of business, business companies and cooperatives and conditions of their establishment, trade, copyright, industrial rights (invention, utility model, trademark, design, know-how, topography of semiconductor products)
7. Fundamentals of labour law - creation and termination of employment, liability for damages, leave, agreements on work outside the employment, basic provisions of social security law
