Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student will obtain complex knowledge about petrochemistry as the greatest section of chemical technology that covers the preparation of wide range of intermediates for production of polymers, plastics, fibers, resins, pesticides, surfactants and many other chemicals, via different transformations of petroleum hydrocarbons and natural gas into basic petrochemicals – alkenes, aromatics, synthesis gas, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide for C1-chemistry and petrochemicals wit heteroatoms.
 
Course contents:
Petrochemistry – definition and importance in chemical technology. Basic conversions of hydrocarbons: pyrolysys, dehydrogenation and hydrogenation, metathesis, polymerizations, conversion of aromatics. Production and treatment of synthesis gas: hydrogen, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, hydroformylation. Production and use of petrochemicals with heteroatoms: oxygen, halogen, nitrogen and sulfur. Subsequent technologies and products.
