Assesment methods:
Interview of student with teacher about funtamentals of the subject.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student is familiar with the methods of analysis of microstructure and their applications. He/she is able to distinguish between particular projection techniques, to evaluate results obtained by spectroscopic and/or diffraction methods, and to determine relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties of materials.
 
Course contents:
Analysis of microstructure:
- light microscopy,
- transmission electron microscopy,
- scanning electron microscopy,
- related spectroscopic and diffraction techniques, Raman, AFM, GDOES, FIB/SEM/TEM.

Characterization of mechanical properties:
- testing of hardness,
- instrumented indentation,
- strnegth (Weibull), elasticity, yield strength,
- Charpy test,
- tribology,
- creep,
- fracture mechanics,
- fractography.
