Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Graduate acquires knowledge of the basic course of Materials Science and of selected chapters oriented to the field of dissertation work.
Course contents:
Materials classification. Atomic structure and interatomic bonds. Crystallisation of metals and metallic alloys. Diffusion in metals and its alloys. Dislocation theory and hardening mechanisms. Defects in materials. Phase diagrams. Phase transformations in metals. Thermal properties of metals and their alloys. Heat treatment of metallic alloys. Special metallic alloys. Production, structure and properties of ceramics. Production, structure and properties of polymers. Composites. Corrosion and degradation of materials. Physical properties of materials. Evaluation of technical materials with respect to economical and environmental aspects.
