Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student obtains information on the use of chemical reactions for the analytical purposes in real conditions of scientific and technical practice. The study is directed only to the necessary information and demonstrates also the answers to basic problems in mutual relations and so it contributes to the formation and development of chemical thinking.
Models of aquiring analytical information. Scientific principles, possibilities and limitations of realisation of chemical analyses by fundamental instrumental techniques. Optimal methods of analytical signal generation and interpretation for information on composition and nature of material systems. Qualification of instruments and validation of methods.
 
Course contents:
Subject and basic terms of analytical chemistry, dependent and independent analytical methods, methods of chemical analysis. Evaluation of analytical data, errors of measurements, expression of analytical results and uncertainty values
Sampling and sample preparation, sample decomposition and dissolution, preconcentration of analyte. Quality assurance and quality control, reference materials, accreditation of testing laboratories
Titrimetry based on acid base reactions, acidimetry, alkalimetry, titration curves in the volumetric determination, indication of equivalent point
Analysis based on complexation reactions, complexometry
Titrimetric and gravimetric methods based on precipitation reactions
Volumetry based on redox reactions, manganometry, iodometry
Kinetic aspects of analytical reactions, their use for the analyte determination, enzymatic analysis.Thermical analysis and its application in analytical chemistry
Methods of instrumental analysis,basic principles of electroanalytical methods, potenciometry, electrogravimetry, trace analysis
Polarography, coulometry, voltammetry
Theoretical bases of the analytical signal in optical methods. Atomic emission and absorption spectrometry
Molecular spectrometry, refractometry
Fundamentals of chromatographic separation methods and their instrumentation, extraction, gas and liquid chromatography
