Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students obtain the knowledge on theoretical basis of analytical separation methods, and on their application for analysis of complex organic systems and for analysis of trace compounds in samples. They are able to select proper separation method and optimize it to solve the particular problem, they know the details of methods and their field of application. They know working characteristics of measring devices and the evaluation software. They can evaluate the qualitative and quantitative information from measured data.
 
Course contents:
Basis of separation methods, phase eqilibration.
Compound balance of separated constituent in chromatographic system.
Separation efficiency, chromatographic zone dilution.
Chromatographic resolution.
Qualitative analytsis. Retention data. Identification.
Quantitative analysis. Calibration.
Gas chromatography, theoretical basis of separation.
Selection of stationary phase and chromatographic column.
Instrumentation for gas chromatography.
Detection in gas chromatography.
Separation of isomers and enantiomers.
Multidimensional separation and methods of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography, GCxGC.
Analytical use of gas chromatography.
