Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Basis and techniques of isolation, characterization, cultivation and practical applications of animal and plant cell cultures.
 
Course contents:
The basic terminology, history, definition of cell, tissue and organ cultures.Biology of cell cultures. Growth enviroment and culture requirement. Primary culture, subculture, cell line, cell strain, cell clone. Organotypic and histotypic culture: Cell interaction and phenotypic expression. Practical applications of cell cultures - viability, cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, gene expression, gene therapy and recombinant preparation. Proteins production - vaccine production, production of cell surface antigens, immunological regulators, hormones, enzymes and growt factors. Animal cells as the products – recombinant, hybridoma and steam cell. Applications of produced cells, production of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cell transplantation, cloning. Production and transplantation of cells, tissue and organs. The application of cell culture methods for preparation of biological replacement of human skin and cartilage. Tissue engineering.. Plant cell cultures.
