Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student will receive information about analytical signal generation based on chemical reactions, knowledge about sampling principles and sample treatment by chemical procedures; principles and application chemical methods of analysis, chemical aspects of instrumental analytical methods.
Course contents:
Process of chemical analysis and its selectivity, preparation and execution of measurement, reference materials.
Sampling, sample treatment and sample storage. Sample decompositions, preseparation and preconcentration, special techniques.
Preliminary tests in organic compound analysis.
General principles of analytical methods based chemical reactions. Acid–base reactions, redox reactions, complex and precipitation reactions. Qualitative analysis, selectivity and interferences.
Quantitative analysis based on chemical reactions. Procedures of volumetric analysis, titration curve, indication. Chemical aspects in volumetric analysis. Gravimetry and precipitation from solution; condition and application.
Chemical reactions in organic compound analysis: methods of elemental analysis, functionals groups detection and determination.
Rate of chemical reaction as source of analytical signal.
Chemical modification of analyte. Extraction techniques in sample treatment. Solid phase extraction (SPE, SPME, SBSE). Ion exchange in selective separation and concentration of analytes. Recovery.
Chemical aspects in instrumental analytical procedures. Reactions in coulometry, voltamperometry. Separation principles in dynamic methods (chromatography and electromigration). Derivatization in chromatography.
