Assesment methods:
Points to pass examination consist of two parts. The first is the quality of elaboration and presentation of project on the given topic (accounts for 60% of total assessment) and the second is knowledge from subject explained during lectures (40%). Overall evaluation of study follows rules given in “Study order of STU”.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student masters the methodology of processing of professional literature search from a variety of electronic and print resources, can search and process technical and scientific information. Student can process information from technical books, patent literature and standards. He can use reference management software for managing literature sources. Student means a way of citing literature and ethics of citing.
Course contents:
1.Introduction to the work with chemical literature. Principles and concepts during research in different sources of scientific information - publications, reports, scientific papers. Division of chemical literature. List of journals and books in Slovak libraries, searching in printed sources in Slovak chemical library. (allowance 2/0)
2.National information system supporting R & D in Slovakia - Access to electronic information sources (NISPEZ). Full-text and bibliographic databases. (allowance 4/0)
a.Search in domestic and foreign journals and electronic books.
b.Remote access to electronic resources through the university network and through the center of scientific and technical information of SR.

3.Searching, sorting, organizing references and citing sources of information using reference managers ( EndNote, Medeley ). Service "Cite while you write". (allowance 2/0)
4.Process of scientific search elaboration. Entering the appropriate search criteria in the processing of literature search. Use of federated search engines. Citing literature sources, STN ISO690, methods and ethics of citation of literary sources. (allowance 4/0)
5.Working with Reaxys -- searching for properties, method of preparation, the reaction conditions, the reactions of various compounds. (allowance 2/0)
6.Search through the patent literature databases Slovak, European and U.S. patents. Working with local regulations, EN, ISO, ASTM, DIN. (allowance 2/0)
7.Assignment of tasks to develop literature review based on individual topics of students. Consultation and checking of elaborated literature review. (allowance 10/0)
