Assesment methods:
Students will pass three tests for 20 points for each one during the semester. Students will successfully pass the tests if they ears at least 35 points. Students will also pass oral exam for 40 points. The maximum number of points required for the oral exam is 25 points. . Students will get credits for the course if they successfully pas both, the written tests and the oral exam. Student receives credit if the results were assessed by one of the classification grades from A to E. Students are graded as follows:A - 92-100%, B - 83-91, C - 74-82, D - 65-73 E - 56-64, FX - 0-55%.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Stsent has improved knowledge about the relationship between the way of bonding, structure and physical and chemical properties of inorganic compounds and substances and about the occurrence, preparation and use of industrially important inorganic substances and materials.
Course contents:
The relationship between the way of bonding, structure and physical and chemical properties of inorganic compounds and substances.
Thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of reactions of industrially important inorganic compounds and substances.
Acid-base, red ox, thermal properties, and solubility of inorganic substances.
Trends in the properties of chemical elements and their compounds.
Sources, preparation and exploitation of industrially important elements and their inorganic substances and materials.
Coordination compounds and their utilization in applied chemistry.
The course is focused mainly at traditional inorganic materials and their division, chemical bond and structure of inorganic materials, and defects of crystal lattice
Further it deals with traditional inorganic non-metallic materials (ceramics, glass, cement), alloys of non-ferrous metals, inorganic fibers, fillers, polymers, and their composites. At the same time it is focused at fundamentals of technology of production of the mentioned traditional, but also advanced inorganic materials.
