|Learning outcomes of the course unit:|
|The students are familiar with the technical terminology related to printing machines, conventional printing techniques and post-processing steps of prints. Understand a print machines as a parametric production systems consist from different subsystems. Understand the basic physicochemical processes in printing. Know the Computer to Plate technologies for classical printing techniques. Understand the processes taking place in the printing unit in a variety of printing techniques. Know the impact of material and process parameters on the printing process and on the quality of prints. Are able to evaluate print quality and identify potential sources of defects, and know significance of norms and standards for print quality assessment. Know the principles of planning and estimating printed job and calculate the production costs.|
|Offset lithography, physicochemical principles, printing plates preparation. Waterless offset lithography.
Sheetfed and web offset printing machines, construction principles. Transport of paper through the printing machine.
Offset printing unit, wetting, ink transfer, offset blankets, printing pressure, modeling of ink transfer.
Print quality control methods, subjective and objective methods, parameters of print quality.
Flexography – printing plate preparation, technology of flexography printing.
Gravure printing – printing cylinders preparation, technology of gravure printing.
Print finishing processes – classification, varnishing, laminating, book finishing.
Print production planning, printing job characteristics, estimation processes, cost calculation of printed job.
