Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students obtain knowledges about interdisciplinary toxicology, information regarding toxicants organic and inorganic character,plant and animal poisons. Students are able explain basic toxicological terms, toxic effects of microorganisms, drugs, infections and auto-immune disease.

Course contents:
Toxicology, aims. Poisons, clasifications, actions.
2. Characterization of toxication. Intake of drugs, distribution, absorbing, metabolism.
3. Toxicity. Acute, sub-acute, chronic toxic effect. Drug interactions. Metodology of toxicity detection.
4. Health damage due to physical factors: UV and IV radiation, x-rays, laser, dust nuisance.
5. Ecotoxicology. Pollutants in air, water and soil.
6. Chemical toxic risks: toxicity of elements,
7. Toxicity of organic and inorganic substances: alkaloids, chinín, glutamate, nitrate and nitrite, acids and base, PCB, dioxins, furan, akrylamid and others.
8. Agricultural chemicals (insekticids, herbicids, fungicids, rodenticids).
9. Health damage due to biological factors: toxins in plants (durman, mak siaty, vianočná ruža, difenbachia, baza čierna, tis obyčajný..) and animals (snakes, sniders, insect).
10. Drug poissoning (antihistaminiká, barbituráty, lokálne anestetiká, analgetiká, antibiotiká a chemoterapeutiká). Characterization, metabolism, toxic effects.
11. Biocides. Characterization, types of biocides. Assessment of biocide. Testing of biocide effectiveness.
12. Mycotoxins and bacterial toxins. Characterization, production in food, health damage, elimination.
13. Health damage due to viruses and parasites from contaminated food. Food allergy and intolerance.
