Assesment methods:
Selected Chapters from Physical Chemistry course culminates in an exam. The notation is defined by the currently valid study regulations at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.
Continuous evaluation is performed in the form of short written tests related to the subjects discussed in the seminars. The short tests are given at each seminar (except for the initial seminar). At least 50 % score must be obtained in the short tests as a part of the condition for the participation in the exam.
The exam is written and consists of two parts, problem solving and theory. It is possible to get through the problem solving part of the exam during the term by attending two written tests. In the case of passing these tests, the exam consists only of the theoretical part. Participation on the two written tests during the term is optional.A prerequisite to the examination is the credit for active presence at the seminars and the successful passing of a solving problems.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student acquires knowledge of fundamental laws and concepts used to explain and interpret the physico-chemical properties of matter. Students learn the properties of gases, chemical thermodynamics, chemical equilibria, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics and catalysis.
Course contents:
The state of matter: ideal and real gas, equations of state
Thermodynamics: the first law, the second law, thermodynamic potentials, thermochemistry, chemical equilibria
Electrochemistry: conduction of electricity in electrolyte solutions, chemical equilibria in electrolyte solutions, galvanic cells
Chemical kinetics and catalysis: the rate of chemical reactions, elementary reactions and simple, consisting of the reaction, the equilibrium constant dependence on temperature
