Assesment methods:
At the end of term, students solve examples oriented on evaluation of curing characteristics of rubber compounds and cross-link density of vulcanizates. Students must provide correct results of both examples. The final exam consists of written and oral parts. Students obtain credits, if they achieve at least 56 from 100 points from each of 4 questions.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Knowledge in field of properties and processing of elastomeric materials.
Course contents:
1. Natural rubber latex, natural rubber, types and properties of natural rubber
2. General principles of synthetic rubbers production, fundamental properties of synthetic rubbers
3. Types and properties of synthetic rubbers (BR, IR, SBR, NBR, IIR, CR)
4. Types and properties of synthetic rubbers (EPM, EPDM, ACM, FKM, O, U, Q, TM)
5. Thermoplastics rubbers
6. Vulcanization agents, types of sulfur vulcanization agents, chemism of sulfur vulcanization
7. Peroxide vulcanization agents, other vulcanization agents
8. Antidegradants, fillers, softeners, plasticizers, other additives of rubber compounds and latexes, reinforcement materials
9. Polymeranalogous reactions of rubbers, plastication of rubbers, ageing of rubbers
10. Principles of rubber compounds formulation, mixing of rubber compounds,technologies of rubber compounds processing
11. Structure of vulcanizate network, vulcanization process, influence of cross-link density on vulcanizate properties, technical aspect of vulcanization
12. Fundamentals of rubber products production, manufacturing of tyres and inner tubes, manufacturing of conveyer belts, hoses and moving belts
13. Rubber waste utilization
