Learning outcomes of the course unit:
To gain the basic knowledge on DNA manipulations, cloning and techniques for preparation of genetically modified organisms and their applications in industry, agriculture, food/feed, pharmacy and medicine.
 
Course contents:
1.Structure of nucleic acids
2.Isolation, separation and purification of nucleic acids
3.Enzymes as a basic tool for manipulation of nucleic acids
4.Introduction of DNA into cells
5.Preparation of recombinant microorganisms
6.Basic techniques of gene engineering (hybridization, blotting, PCR, sequencing)
7.Obtaining and location of specific gene
8.Preparation of transgene plants
9.Cloning of animal cells
10.Production of recombinant proteins
11.Regulation of gene expression
12.Gene negineering in food/feed industry, agriculture, pharmacy and medicine
13.Ethic, safety and legislative of genetically modified organisms
