Assesment methods:
Students will write 3 preliminary tests during the semester and final test at the end of course. Maximum number of points from preliminary tests is 10 for each test and from final test students obtain maximum 20 points. Successful termination of the course requires at 15 points from all preliminary tests and at least 12 points from final test. Students are graded as follows: A 50-47 points, B 46-43 points, C 42-37 points, D 36-31 points, E 30-27 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student is familiar with basic methods of determination of selected biochemical parameters used in clinical biochemistry for diagnostics of diseases.
Course contents:
Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism
a. Determination of saccharides in body fluids
b. Determination of glucose in blood
c. Determination of ketone bodies in urine

Metabolism of lipids
a. Determination of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol
b. Determination of triacylglycerol

Enzyme activity
a. Measurement of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity
b. Measurement of transferases (AST, ALT) activity
c. Determination of total proteins in blood plasma, determination of creatinine in plasma and urine
