Assesment methods:
In the oral examination - two questions (up to 30 points), the requirement is to obtain more then 33 points. Students will get credits for the course if they successfully pas both, the written tests and the oral exam. Student receives credit if the results were assessed by one of the classification grades from A to E. Students are graded as follows:A - 92-100%, B - 83-91, C - 74-82, D - 65-73 E - 56-64, FX - 0-55%.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student has an extended knowledge on individual technologies in silicate industry, with special attention paid to processes in the mixtures of raw materials, as the result of production conditions.
Course contents:
Theoretical basics of silicate technology. Basics of oxide systems: phase equilibrium, solid state reactions-mechanisms. Forming technology, rheological properties, processing, temperature processing at preparation of silicate materials. Microstructure development and phase composition.
Ceramic technology: preparation of ceramic raw mixtures, forming technology, drying, firing, finalization. Ceramics based on clays or kaolin, technical ceramics, refractory ceramics, advanced ceramics, bioceramics.
Glass technology: characteristic of glass and its properties in melted state, basic types of industrial glasses and their properties, raw materials for preparation of glass batches, batch melting processes, forming and cooling process of glass products, glass labeling.
Technology of inorganic binders: classification of inorganic binders: hydraulic and air binders, raw materials. Cement: raw materials, preparation, processing, clinker minerals, gypsum. Hydration, hardening and properties of materials.
