Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Profound and complete the knowledge and skills on thermodynamics acquired previously from the basic course of Physical Chemistry.
Course contents:
Brief repetition from the basic course - I. and II. principles of termodynamics, entropy, thermodynamic potentials, Maxwell equations, III. principle of termodynamics. Properties of real systems - state equations, U, H, S and heat capacities as functions of temperature and pressure, state equations of liquids, acentric factor. Phase equilibria - phase changes of I. and II. order, Clapeyron and Clausius-Clapeyron equations, Ehrenfest equations. Termodynamcs of real solutions - Lewis-Randall rule, mixing and excess quantities, Raoult and Henry laws for real systems, Konovalov laws, Margules equations, equilibrium l-g at high pressures. Chemical equilibria - reactions in homogeneous gas and liquid phases, heterogeneous reactions, enthalpic balances and chemical equilibrium, simultaneous equilibria. Thermodynamics of electrolyte solutions - colligative properties of electrolyte solutions, salt effect, equilibria in ionic solutions. Thermodynamics of curved surfaces and small systems.
