Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will become acquainted with steel and timber as structural materials and with the principles of design and verification of members and connections of steel and timber structures.
Course contents:
Characteristics of metal structures. Production and fundamental properties of steel. Reliability and design principles of steel structures according to the limit states. Welded and bolted connections. Design of tension, compression, bended members and truss girders. Stability problems of members under compression and bending. Constructional details of steel structural members. Load-bearing systems of steel buildings.
Timber as a structural material. Connections and joining of timber members. Design and verification of timber load-bearing members.
