Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Probability theory and mathematical statistics play an important role in decision processes in engineering applications. This subject brings to students the knowledge about the basics of the probability theory and mathematical statistics, but also it brings the skills when applying basic probabilistic and statistical procedures available in accessible software tools in practical applications.

Course contents:
- probability, conditional probability, independence and the Bayes theorem
- random variable (discrete, continuous), transformation of random variable, probabilistic distributions (binomial, hypergeometric, Poisson, uniform, normal, exponential and related distributions)
- introduction to the mathematical statistics; descriptive statistics, graphical processing of statistical samples; classification of statistical data; frequency table; random sample and its basic properties; sample statistics (mode, median, sample average, sample standard deviation, weighted average)
- interval estimations, hypothesis testing (some parametric and non-paramteric tests, goodness of fit tests)
