|Student will became familiar with theory, analysis, and principles of shell structures and application of these on civil engineering problems. The governing equations for shell structures will be derived, membrane and moment theory will be explained, range of applicability of the membrane theory given. Application of computer programs for the analysis of the plane and spatial, discrete and continuous systems will be practiced.|
|* The geometry of the surface in curvilinear coordinates, I. and II. quadratic forms of surfaces, Gaussian curvature.
* Membrane theory of shells, the fundamental equations, applicability of the membrane theory.
* Shells of revolution, general and axisymmetric loading.
* Moment theory of shells, the fundamental equations, boundary conditions.
* Cylindrical shells, membrane theory of cylindrical shells, edge effects.
* Moment theory of cylindrical water tank.
* Shallow shells. Stability of shell structures.
