Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students will learn principles of selection and suitability of fuels for efficient combustion, assessment of combustion processes, and estimation of energy efficiency for heating sources and evaluation of the heating source designs with regard to the production of emissions and imissions, protection of the outdoor environment.
Course contents:
 Energy balance in relation to the consumption of fuels in Slovakia. The base of fuels. Energy, heat and performance of combustion substances.
 Characteristics of fuels used in combustion equipment. Classification of power supply facilities.
 Solid fuels -- types and characteristics. Water, ash and combustion in fuels. Combustion equations and process control.
 Coefficient of the air excess at the perfect combustion. Conditions of the perfect combustion, concentrations of CO2, CO and O2. The Oswald's triangle.
 Combustion equipment -- boilers. Types, constructions and application. Burning chambers and boiler draughts. Measuring and control valves, control and regulation.
 Liquid and gaseous fuels -- natural and artificial. Combustion Stechiometric equations, perfect and imperfect combustion. Analysis of flue gases. Heat costs and the efficiency of boilers.
 Economy of combustion equipment, operation and servicing of boilers. Energy management. Certification of boilers and regular inspections.
